Virgin Radio On Your Next Generation Console

Always pioneering in music and media, Virgin plans to bring its Radio station to the PS3 and the Wii. Leading other UK radio stations, Virgin will be the first to broadcast its content on next generation consoles, bringing Virgin Radio, sister stations Xtreme, Classic Rock and Groove to PS3 and Wii browsers in UK living rooms. Console owners will also be able to shop for tickets, CDs, downloads and watch video content.

In line with GameFlavor's recent feature on convergence, James Cridland, the digital media director at Virgin Radio, informed SPOnG earlier today, "PlayStation 3 or Wii will become the entertainment hub in your front room. We have worked hard to make the station available on as many different platforms as possible… We’re looking into providing the station via the Xbox 360 as well, but for now it’s only available via the PS3 and Wii browsers.”

As part of its wider digital strategy and to bolster an industry-wide drop in advertising revenues, Virgin also recently launched a MySpace community to maintain loyalty among listeners and will be partnering Channel 4 for the UK's second national digital radio multiplex.
