The PlayStation 3’s European launch has been a long, uncomfortable and exploitative journey but at least the end is now in sight after a clutch of major retailers announced they are to start taking pre-orders.

Amazon, Argos, Game and Play.com are amongst the big names and each of them have put together a host of different packages and deals to try and tempt buyers into parting with their hard earned cash

Game, for example, is paying homage to the time honoured bundle method by offering a PS3 with Call of Duty 3, Motorstorm and Resistance: Fall of Man for £554.96 or with a selection of Virtua Fighter 5, Virtua Tennis 3 and Resistance: Fall of Man for £564.96.

On the other hand Play.com is simply guaranteeing all PS3 pre-orders with its Head of Games (great job title), Gian Luzio, saying it has,

“been working hard with Sony to make sure that we can deliver every pre-order on the release date.”

That said it does also offer a bundle of Genji, MotorStorm and Resistance: Fall of Man for £525. Amazon goes even further with promises to pledge its complete launch allocation to pre-orders to satisfy demand. “You save: £0.01p” it proudly boasts on the pre-order page but it does come with free delivery.

Finally Argos is copying the Amazon route with a straight console price of £424.99 (again 1p off, don’t knock it!) and promising only to take pre-orders from its stock allocation so when they’re gone, they’re gone.

All four promise delivery for the PS3’s 23 March launch date so if you want to wow your friends you better get moving...
