Test Drive Unlimited 2 Cars Look Pretty But 'Floaty'

We were sent a new trailer from Atari, who are excited to show off all of the pretty cars in their upcoming MMO driving game, Test Drive Unlimited 2. This time, it's the prancing horse that is the star of the show, with Ferrari models looking absolutely beguiling in what the developer claims is realtime footage from the game's engine. Of course, anything can look great when its in a virtual garage; what about when the cars get let out into the sprawling world (Mediterranean island paradise Ibiza in this game) and the polygon count takes a hit? Well, the in-game footage doesn't look quite so great, and one nasty blemish from the first game unfortunately looks like it has reared its head in the sequel as well.
We are of course talking about floaty cars, which are apparent in the video below around the 1:26 mark. A major complaint during the first outing on Oahu was that car models didn't appear to be firmly attached to the road. They didn't handle like real cars, either, which posed an even greater problem for the game. Let's hope that the developers can improve both the floaty sensation of handling and the graphics before Test Drive Unlimited 2 launches in "early" 2011.
