Street Fighter Alpha Coming to PSN on Thursday

The "Senior Marketing Manager" for Capcom's Street Fighter series has a tough job. The poor guy was given the thankless task of announcing a surprise on the company's corporate blog, but it turns out that the surprise is kind of "meh".

Street Fighter Alpha, the PSOne remake, will be making its way to the Playstation Store this Thursday. The 1996 release was the first major re-vamp of the series after Street Fighter II. It added new super combos, which could be used by filling up a power gauge, and a "Zero Counter" technique that allowed players to counter enemy attacks by depleting a part of their own power gauge.

Despite the popularity of the original game, the immediate fan reaction following the announcement was less than overjoyed. Many had hoped for a bigger announcement on the topic of the upcoming Street Fighter IV, and were put off by the prospect of paying to play a classic title. Furthermore, the news of Street Fighter Alpha was hardly a surprise, since details had leaked about the game following an ESRB rating applicaiton 8 months ago.

Yeah, talk about "meh." Where is the long-awaited Street Fighter II: HD Remix? I thought that game was the "hold me over" game until the release of SF4. Typical Capcom, always dragging ass and trying to fill the void. *sigh* Although, SFA introduced Cammy to the Street Fighter series, which became one of my favorite charactes. Ya'll realize Cammy was played by Kylie Minogue in the Street Fighter movie, right? Just a little tid-bit.
