Sony will only be shipping 80,000 PlayStation 3s for the Japanese launch, according to a report in the Nikkei Keizai Shimbun morning edition. The previous launch target of 100,000 will be missed due to component shortages, the report suggests. Although Sony has yet to officially confirm this information, the report also casts doubt on whether or not Sony will be able to make its target of 400,000 units for the North American launch on Nov. 17. If the NA target would be reduced on a similar scale, it would leave only 320,000 PS3s available for the launch.
