Yesterday's pre-order PlayStation 3 sales at EB Games and GameStop stores went well, with all 3,600 stores selling out by 4:00 p.m. EDT. The company declined to say how many units were pre-ordered, but did say that each store had between eight and sixteen consoles each. “I have heard from a store managers who said it was a few minutes after opening that they sold out,” said Chris Olivera, spokesman for the company.
Sony heard of the early morning sellouts within minutes, said SCEA spokesman Dave Karraker. "It reconfirms the excitement and anticipation that we’ve known since we first discuss the PlayStation 3," he said. " We're just pleased to see that the reaction from the consumer is as strong as we anticipated it would be. It helps to validate everything we have been saying up to this point."
