The hype for the upcoming E3 2012 keeps on building, as there have been several rumors that have been churning over Sony and the possibility of an unveiling of the Sony PlayStation 4.

E3 has long been the location where many of the next-generation consoles have been unveiled.

We have seen this arena used as a launching pad for many consoles over the past few decades, and continue to see this trend as Nintendo unveiled the Wii U at the expo just a year ago.

Rumors over the course of the week have pointed out that Sony may be gearing up for an unveiling of the Sony PS4 at this year's E3. Sony came out though and killed these rumors, stating that the PS4 would not be unveiled, and confirmed that they are sticking with the PS3 and its initial 10-year plan.

Although we can be sure at this point that the PS4 will not be unveiled, we have to ask, is this the right decision.

Sony at this point clearly knows what they want to accomplish with the PS4 and also likely has a prototype of the console as well as the controller.

What we saw last year was an unveiling of a next-generation console two full years before it was to be released with the Wii U.

This is expected to allow Nintendo to continue to build hype and anticipation as the actual launch nears.

So one would have to wonder, with Sony likely launching the the PS4 after both the Wii U and the Xbox 720, why not get a jump start and show gamers what they should be waiting for.

By doing so, they could show to gamers that the Sony PS4 may be worth the wait in the long-run, especially if they plan on launching it only a year or two after the Nintendo Wii U.

It is this reason, simply for the hype train to get rolling, that unveiling the PS4 at E3 this year may not be such a bad idea.

Even if they do not showcase a game, they could show the gaming world they are ready for the next-gen, and they will dictate when it truly begins.
