Sony Demystifies Background Downloading

With what appeared to be conflicting explanations on Sony's new background downloading from the British and US press, Sony has now revealed precisely how the feature will work, courtesy of our friends Kotaku.

According to Kotaku, David Karreker, head of Sony Computer Entertainment PR, confirmed that:

You can play games and download in the background, you just can't play online. So playing offline in a single player mode is doable, but once you hop into multiplayer or something that uses the network the download pauses. When the online portion ends, the download resumes without any lost data.

Now thank heavens that's finally been cleared up.
