Sony confirmed on the official PlayStation Blog today that it will be bringing monster-survival game The Last Guy to the west later this year, in the form of a PSN download. The game is currently only available in Japan, where it has enjoyed enough popularity to warrant a western release.

The Last Guy is a unique take on the survival/horror genre, in which players must rescue groups of civilians by leading them to an Escape Zone. Gameplay takes place from an overhead perspective using aerial photography and images of the landscape taken from Google Earth. As if by magic, the game constrains your movement to streets and squares that mobs of fleeing civilians would typically be able to use while running from a zombie horde. Watching monsters erupt from beneath the streets of your home town has got to be a trip worth taking, in our estimation.
