PS3 Price Drop Confirmed

As reported by KOTV, Starting on Monday, July 9th, the 60 GB PS3 will be priced at $499, despite the fact that Sony president Ryoji Chubachi told Reuters in an interview, "At present we have no plans [to cut the PS3 price]," More of "Sony's lies"? (I kid)

The report also notes that an 80 GB PS3 will make it's way to the US and Canada in August for $599. It will also come packaged with Motorstorm.

Will these two tactics increase the sales of PS3s? I can't help but think Sony would be better off returning the 20 gig for $399 instead of putting out another system at the same price. (Kaz Hirai, Phil Harrison, Howard Stringer, are you listening?!)
