Long lines were met with short supplies during last night's Midnight launch of the PlayStation 3. Several crowds, anticipating the launch, broke into mild violence and one caused the Super Wal-Mart in Palmdale, California to call authorities and close the store. Overall the launch is being viewed as a success, with all available stock being sold at every store PS3 Informer was able to check with at the time of this writing. PS3 units are already hitting eBay, many going for double or more their retail price of $599.

If you didn't manage to secure a PS3 the first time around, executive VP of SCEA Jack Tretton has stated that Sony will be making daily shipments of the PS3, expedited by plane. "At some point we want to get to some degree of normalcy, but that remains to be seen," Tretton said, adding that seeing all the people camped out and lined up for the console "kind of makes all the effort worth it."
