Phil Harrison Comments on LBP Delay

Ex-Sony boss Phil Harrison left for Atari in March, but he still has close ties -- and a lot of respect -- for his old company. In a statement to journalists yesterday, he said that while Sony and Media Molecule have drawn a lot of criticism for their decision to delay LittleBigPlanet, he would not have handled things any differently. He called the delay -- which has resulted in disappointment and retail confusion around the world -- a small hurdle that would not impact the future success of the game "one iota". Harrison also had some eloquent words in defense of the decision to recall the game, which he said was integral to the global vision Sony has for the project:

"I wasn't privy to all of the discussions and debate that went on within Sony, but I know they would have thought very deeply about it, and at the highest level of the company. And on reflection I think it was absolutely the right thing to do, because LittleBigPlanet set out from day one to be a game for the entire world - and if there was anything that accidentally detracted from that vision and made the game not fun for the entire world, then the game would have fundamentally failed in its mission."

Well, we have been frothing at the mouth in frustration over the delay, but since you put it like that, I suppose we can find something else to do in the intervening time before release (which is currently expected to be no later than October 31 in North America, November 4th in Europe).
