Those crazy guys over at Ars Technica seem to have a better mole than we do. (Ours is located on our thigh and it doesn't reveal gaming secrets.) Their mole claims that the 80 GB is being phased out to make room for another SKU with a bigger hard drive.
Why now? Well, they don't give you an answer, but we will. Sony's going to launch their video download service and they want a PS3 with a huge hard drive as an option for consumers.
