Next-Gen Syndicate Title Rumored to Be in Development

Sources from within the Starbreeze development studio have revealed to journalists that the company is indeed working on a new Syndicate game for consoles and the PC. Starbreeze has been rumored to be at work on the game for some time, although no solid facts about gameplay or story have been revealed so far. We are hoping for a big announcement and more news at this year’s E3 event.

The sources told Gamesindustry.biz that the meaning that the title is likely far along in development. Starbreeze is best known for its work on 3D action games like Chronicles of Riddick and The Darkness. We think that if this rumor turns out to be true, that Starbreeze is the ideal developer for this kind of game (just as long as they don’t go and pull a disastrous Shadowrun with our beloved franchise).

Syndicate is a much loved series of PC video games in the cyberpunk genre. During the first two titles, which were produced by now-defunct company Bullfrog, the player navigated a world of cybernetic implants and corporate mercenaries with a squad of deadly assassins. Gameplay was top-down isometric, and placed a heavy emphasis on strategic thinking. The only way that Starbreeze could conceivably botch this new title would be by either dumbing-down the difficulty or abandoning the strategic aspects of gameplay. Fingers crossed, folks.
