Next Assassin's Creed Game on PSP

Sony Computer Entertainment today announced that an all new Assassin's Creed game will be coming to the PSP in 2009. Furthermore, the company plans to issue a special PSP hardware bundle along with the game. The title will be exclusive to the PSP system, and is being developed by Ubisoft, who were responsible for the first console title in the planned trilogy. A handheld spinoff was released on the Nintendo DS in 2008, but it did not live up to the original in terms of sales. There is no word yet on whether the PSP title will revisit the holy land setting from the first game, or blaze new trails in a new location.

In an official press release the company stated, "Ubisoft will debut an exclusive installment of the popular Assassin’s Creed franchise on PSP later this year. To commemorate this highly anticipated title, SCEA will launch a new bundle that includes the game, a Piano Black PSP, and other content that will be announced later."

Wow, we have to say that this comes as a complete and total surprise. However, Assassin's Creed was one of our favorite games from the consoles last year, so we are excited to see how this handheld version takes shape.
