Sr Development Manager SCEA R&D, Noam Rimon posted an entry on the PlayStation.Blog announcing the availability of "Life with PlayStation." What does this mean? A PS3 owner can access real-time news and weather conditions across the globe! What's the catch? Download (free) and install Folding@Home Project, which concurrently, PS3Informer is a member of and welcoming others to join us!

To access Life with PlayStation, there's no system firmware update as one may imagine since the recently v2.43 targeted for Japan region - yet available worldwide. However, installment/update of the Folding@Home Project is required, found under Network in the XMB. Once Life with PlayStation has downloaded and installed, the controls are simple and the view - delicious eye candy! The big-blue planet slowly rotates with provided background music, also customizable to your own tunes, while visiting metropolitan cities around the globe. When passing through each destination, the viewer is greeted with current temperatures provided by The Weather Channel, the latest news feed by Google News, and still images from Earth Television Network webcams. An explorer can assume control of the journey across the only known habited planet in the Milky Way by embracing the PS3 controller and interact with Earth as deemed fit.

The idea for Life with PlayStation is to have the PS3 running consistently each day. When waking-up or returning home from work, an owner can access real-time news and weather conditions on-demand without commercial interruptions. (Internet connection required.) Meanwhile, the curved gaming machine's processors are working behind-the-scenes, building proteins to assist Stanford University search to discover cures for diseases: The Folding@Home Project. Think of Life with PlayStation as an interactive news and weather feed screen saver while listening to music on the PS3.
