Sony has been fueling the rumours of its entertainment based plans for the PlaySataion 3 again. Part of this strategy includes video downloads for its uber-console, which will no doubt lead it to a face off against the Xbox 360.

Sony says there's more than just games coming to PS3...

Sony head honcho Phil Harrison has set tongues wagging in the gaming community. He says PS3 “needs to stand for gaming and digital entertainment… that includes more than just games.”

Speaking to 1Up.com Harrison was quizzed over Sony’s plans for movie and TV downloads.

He wouldn’t openly admit they were on the cards, but said: “It is digital data. We have a hard drive, we have a commerce engine, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out we will have that on the network very shortly".

Sony’s been heard murmuring about a more entertainment-centred PS3 before, and it’d certainly be a challenge to Xbox’s IPTV and movie downloads.
