LittleBigPlanet 2 Confirmed Via Twitter

Another E3 looms on the horizon, and that means more leaks from the Sony public relations team. Last year we learned about the PS3 slim and the PSP Go many weeks before either were officially unveiled, and this year the cracks are already starting to show. When running a global multinational corporation with thousands of individual developers, publishers and retailers involved, its understandable that secrets will get out. Especially secrets as big as the bombshell that a LittleBigPlanet sequel is headed our way, possibly as soon as fall 2010.

The news about LittleBigPlanet 2 was leaked thanks to that most profligate leaking machine, Twitter. Apparently, an electronic musician by the name of Ochre let slip that he is under contract with Sony to produce music that will be featured in LittleBigPlanet 2. What, do they not know the meaning of "non disclosure agreement" in Ibiza?

Anyway, the artist tweeted over the weekend that he was 'pleased to announce the licensing of 'Infotain Me' to Sony for LittleBigPlanet 2 on PS3.' It's hard to imagine the author of this tweet being any more specific, so we'll put this in the 'almost definite' rumor bin. Ochre also appended two hashtags to the tweet, #corporatewhore and #sellout, just to make sure that his fans didn't think he really is one. Or something.

Sony wasn't pleased about any of this, and the artist promptly removed all references to the game from his twitter account, adding even more fuel to the fire.

Sony bought the developer Media Molecule earlier this year, leading many to speculate that we would see more of the successful franchise on both the PS3 and PSP platforms.

You can listen to the track Infotain Me below. Although I am a big electronic music fan, this sounds a little bit too close to Boards of Canada for my taste. Normally imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but not when it fails to achieve the same level of quality as the original group's contribution. Still, for alerting us to the existence of a sequel to one of our beloved PS3 franchises, we salute you, Ochre.
