Arcade racing fans can now download a classic title from Konami and Sumo Digital called GTI Club+. The game was originally released exclusively to arcades way back in 1996 and instantly became a big hit. The game was one of the first racing titles to allow partial free-roaming in the environment, and players could use this to their advantage by locating shortcuts through particular tracks. Even back then, the game had nice graphics, but the team in charge of this remake have improved them even more.

Sporting newly-updated HD graphics, GTI Club+ enables players to compete online with up to eight friends in either free-for-all events or team play. Just like in the original, this game is set in France. In GTI Club+, players race through the tight city streets and winding mountain roads of France's Ville De Circo with an elite collection of high performance European hatchbacks, such as the Mini Cooper and Volkswagen Golf. The game also adds global leaderboards and a new multiplayer mode called Bombtag, where players must get rid of a hot-potato like explosive by contacting other cars.

According to developers, GTI Club+ takes full advantage of the Playstation 3 system, utilizing a rumble-enabled controller to create vibrations when cars race over bumps in the road, as well as provide motion controlled steering. As an added bonus, gamers can take pictures using the Playstation Eye and distribute them to other gamers during crucial racing moments such as overtaking, crashing and ramming.

We hate to imagine how players will manage to abuse that last photo feature, but nevertheless the game sounds quite fun. You can grab it now for the price of $10 USD.

The original GTI Club was a pretty good-looking game for its time, but Sumo Digital has given the title a whole new look:
