Kaz Hirai talks about PS3 shortages

In a recent interview following the 2007 Sony Expo, SCEA president Kaz Hirai spoke about the expected shortages of the PS3, and reiterated their launch targets of 400,000 PS3 units for the initial U.S. launch and an additional 600,000 by the end of '06. “Unfortunately, there are going to be some shortages,” Hirai said. “I ask for everybody’s patience. We are pedal to the metal in terms of trying to get as many units as possible into both the Japanese and American market.”

He also said that despite his position, his 12-year-old son doesn't have one either. “He talks a good game about PlayStation 3 when he’s at school, but he hasn’t touched one and he hasn’t seen one,” Hirai said. “That’s only fair for everybody.”
