Heavy Rain - Why this game could spawn a generation of new games:

Before I share my thoughts with you I would like to offer Quantic Dreams a Standing Ovation - Heavy Rain really caught me and impressed me bucket loads. It got me
thinking about other areas where this style of game play could be used and used as well as it is in Heavy Rain? Now, this really got me thinking? The Film/Game cross over is a pretty bad one and any film, that becomes successful or good is as result of the devs purposely straying as far away from the film as possible - Think 'Arkham Asylum' as the perfect example.

Now the Heavy Rain style of play is something that could possibly be picked up on by games that use emotion, character building, choice tiers, multiple paths. This is something that could really work, maybe not across the board, but in some way a method that could be used to enjoy the film game cross over's properly.

The first that jumps out is 'Shutter Island' which was a brilliant film. Whilst I was watching it with my Girlfriend [who guessed the outcome from the off I might add!] I couldn't help but think 'Wow, this would really play well if under the complete control of QD?'

The Cops checking out the should be Prison, Turned Hospital. The disappearances of a patient. The cagey reception and the way things are always slightly concealed. Without spoiling the film for you the beginning, middle and end are full of twists and turns that add to the experience, The choice element and Karma style system would work very well
as part of this story, but more in the vein of Fahrenheit, but still stylized like Heavy Rain.

The film was great and the only thing that would have made it better would have been if they had offered me a pad and the nod to play it. Heavy Rain has intrigued me as I think the game play style is very much a niche method, but it could be coupled with some really great projects?

What was your view of Heavy Rain did it surprise you as much as it surprised me.
