First Images and Details on 2.40 Trophy System

A couple of tantalizing images of Sony's new trophy achievement system have leaked onto the net. Two different industry insider have spilled the beans on what the new system will look like, and they have kindly provided the images you see here. The first image appears to show a kind of rudimentary trophy room, in which players can view the number that they have accumulated for each type. Later on, we expect this feature to be integrated with Home so that players can view their accumulated trophies in all their 3D glory. There will evidently by five types of trophies, ranging from bronze to platinum.

Apparently, unlike Microsoft's gamerscore system, Sony's offering will be all about the levels.
Our friends over at PS3Fanboy received an anonymous tip from a developer who explained how the levelling-up process will work in game:

"Each trophy type will be worth a different number of points, so there are limits to how many of each trophy are in a single game. In order to progress through levels you will need to gain a certain number of trophy points. This number will increase with each level, making it more difficult to reach higher levels. "

Here, an image shows what the sony "gamercard" will look like. This person has not won any trophies, but a counter on the bottom will display the number of trophies won as well as the current levelof the player.

Another anonymous source over at Talk Playstation has suggested that the release window for firmware v. 2.40 needed to be pushed back due to a fatal bug with the in-game XMB discovered at the last moment. He or she now says that the company is on track for a July 1-3 release window for the new firmware. That means that we could, in theory, be slavishly trying to accumulate virtual trophies as early as next week.
