Sony has announced that the first Blu-Ray movie titles will be released May 23, alongside the first Blu-Ray player, the Samsung BD-P1000. Both Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and MGM Home Entertainment will be releasing films on May 23, followed by another wave of releases on June 13. Titles to be released:
May 23
+ 50 First Dates
+ The Fifth Element
+ Hitch
+ House of Flying Daggers
+ A Knight's Tale
+ The Last Waltz
+ Resident Evil Apocalypse
+ XXX
June 13
+ Kung Fu Hustle
+ Legends of the Fall
+ Robocop
+ Stealth
+ Species
+ SWAT
+ Terminator
Shortly after the release of the Samsung player Sony and Pioneer will follow suit with their own Blu-Ray players, and Sony is expected to release a Blu-Ray compatible VAIO computer around the same time. The effect all these announcements will have on the PS3 is unknown, but it is a fairly safe bet that Sony won't be releasing the system until there is at least a decent catalog of Blu-Ray movies to go along with it, which in our thinking moves the earliest release date into the September-October range.
