Final Fantasy XIII Sales Numbers Show PS3 Loyalty

Maybe it was brand loyalty, and maybe it was the fact that the PS3 version was slightly superior. In any case, Final Fantasy XIII sold nearly twice as many copies on the PS3 in America in March than it did on the Xbox 360. By all accounts, Sony had a spectacular month, seeing four software titles make it into the top ten chart (below). Even Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg had to congratulate his counterparts at Sony for their impressive performance. This data, gathered from the NPD group, would suggest a major resurgence of Sony's popularity in the United States, where the Xbox 360 has enjoyed a consistently bigger installed base and higher monthly hardware sales.

However, this uptick in software sales will be hard to maintain. The release schedule for April has not been nearly as intense as it was last month, suggesting that things may look much different the next time an NPD report slides across our desks.
