Final Fantasy IX Confirmed For PSN

After a whole bunch of teasing on Twitter this week, Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada has finally confirmed that Final Fantasy IX will be offered on PSN for the PSP and PS3 systems. The move seems only natural, since FF VII and FF VIII are already available for download on the service. No details on price or date were revealed in today's short announcement, but we expect the game to cost a similar $9.99 when it finally does arrive.

Final Fantasy IX was released in 2000 and was the third game in the franchise to appear on the Sony PS1 console. The game introduced new features to the series, such as the Active Time Events, Moogle save system, and a revamped equipment and skill system.

The game featured a detailed, gorgeous game world full of colorful characters. Set in the traditional fantasy world of Gaia, Final Fantasy IX's plot centered on a conflict between several opposing nations. Players follow the story of a young thief named Zidane Tribal, who joins with several others to defeat evil Queen Brahne of Alexandria. The plot shifts later in the game as new, more powerful villains reveal themselves behind the scenes.

Final Fantasy IX is a somewhat overlooked entry in the series, and it is deserving of your attention if you never got around to playing it back in the day. Let's hope that Square Enix doesn't take too long getting this title into our greedy little hands now that they've promised it's on the way.

Final Fantasy IX is the last of the PSOne titles in the series, and still holds up as a great RPG today.
