Sierra Entertainment, a division of Vivendi Games, announced today that the paranormal frenetic first-person shooter F.E.A.R. (First Encounter Assault Recon) game for the PLAYSTATION3 computer entertainment system has shipped to retailers nationwide.

The F.E.A.R. game uses stunning visual effects to provide an intense "action movie" experience to keep players engrossed in the cinematic spine-chilling storyline. Gamers will assume the role of an elite soldier trained in combating unusual and unimaginable situations. Called in to confront a murderous force, the player must contain a crisis spiraling out of control. F.E.A.R. is a unique fusion of gameplay, featuring stylized first-person shooting combat and supernatural suspense for a cohesive plot that keeps gamers at the edge of their seats.

F.E.A.R. for the PLAYSTATION 3 system will feature multiplayer support for up to 16 players and a new Instant Action Mode that will track a player's progress in close quarters battles via leader boards for the PLAYSTATION Network. F.E.A.R. will also feature an exclusive level for the PLAYSTATION 3 system and an exclusive weapon.

"The F.E.A.R. franchise has sold over 2 million copies since inception and now PLAYSTATION 3 system users will be the latest to experience the true meaning of F.E.A.R.," said Pascal Brochier, president, Global Retail for Vivendi Games. "We're excited to bring this award winning, bone chilling title to the PLAYSTATION 3 system console and expect an entire new base of gamers to become fans of F.E.A.R."

F.E.A.R. is currently available for the PLAYSTATION 3 system for a suggested retail price of $59.99.
