Game giant Eidos, say they plan to hold back their major PS3 releases until the console's home ownership reaches 8 million. The reason being, as they explained to MCV, is that Eidos are looking for a solid world market before they unleash their big gun titles. They say they have strong confidence that the PS3 will reach this figure.
“We have absolutely no doubt that PS3 will be a very successful platform and we’re completely behind it,” said Eidos chief financial officer Rob Murphy. “Ideally, we would like to have a market that is a worldwide installed base of eight to ten million PS3 units by the time we bring out our big products. But we’ll have to assess how that moves.”
As Hexus comments, despite Eidos's vote confidence this decision is not good for Sony, as they would wish to ensure all the big developers are releasing thier big titles in order to increase PS3 sales. However, analysts claim that first party titles are the "the key driver of console sales" if Sony hope to hit their target figure for 2007.
