According to a report in the July issue of Japan's Ultra One monthly technology magazine, Sony is planning on incorporating the PS2 chipset inside of its PlayStation 3 console due to problems with backward compatibility software. The fix is expected to be temporary, and models shipped once the software is ready won't feature the chipset.

Also revealed in the article are details on the system's "large amount of flash memory," which will be used for the system software and updates, leaving the built-in hard drive free for downloaded multimedia content.
