Dead Space Gets Early Release Date

deadspace-icon.jpg

The upcoming space-horror shooter from EA will be relased a week earlier than expected, according to the company's Redwood Studio. Originally planned for October 21, the game will now hit shelves in North America on October 14. The planned PC version will still arrive later, on October 20. Publishers EA did not provide an official reason for the new release date, stating simply that gamers would now have another full week to enjoy the title before halloween. Of course, the move could also be a cynical marketing ploy to avoid launching the same week as other high-profile holiday releases like Fallout 3 and Fable 2.

For those who need a refresher, Dead Space is about surviving in a horrific sci-fi future inhabited by aliens called Necromorphs, who have an overwhelming desire to dismember you. When an immense mining ship, the USG Ishimura, comes into contact with a mysterious alien artifact in a remote star system, its communications with Earth are suddenly cut off. Engineer Isaac Clarke is sent to repair the Ishimura's communications array, but he arrives to find a living nightmare — the ship is a floating bloodbath, the crew unspeakably mutilated and infected by an ancient alien scourge. Check back with Gameflavor in October to see if this space opera hits its mark, or if it is destined to flop in the face of superior firepower.
