Dante's Inferno : My Experience

Dantes B.jpg

Ahoy there me hearties, apologies for the intro there but it felt right at the time. Dante's Inferno is a game which for my sins I played and completed AFTER God of War 3 so I am doing my utmost to be upbeat and positive as God of War 3 is the greatest game I have ever played.

Now back to Dante and his quest to retrieve Beatrice. I started off with this game with high expectations which I tried to avoid. So we sling the disk in the PS3 and off we go. To start with I liked the way it played out and its novel methods, in many ways it reminded me of Infamous with its comic style presentation, although its execution wasn't anywhere near as good as Sucker Punches little gem. This left me with negative feelings towards the game, disappointment if you will, but I persisted and started firing my way through the game. The levels seem well thought in some ways but always felt as though they weren't quite as they wanted them. The depth of the game simply wasn't there with each battle being too short, too easy or dare I say it - too boring!. I mean the final boss should be the pinnacle of the game, whereas for me the stand out Boss was the 'Lady' with babies emitting from her nipple, not because she was good, but because I thought - why, it annoyed me more than anything as it was inconsistent and for me showed a lack of idea.

Running through levels and soul searching was an addition which could have had more substance, instead you find yourself sending everyone to hell because you cant be bothered with the side game of 'push the button' which in honesty feel distant and disconnected , which again left me thinking - eh? why? really?

The campaign is short lived and forgettable and for this reason I am truly saddened. What with Dead Space proving to be such a hit and one of my fabourite games this generation, I really had seriously high expectations for Dante's Inferno, what with the Video Diary, Promises and the Graphics on show. Unfortunately after completing the game I had no further interest, no in the DLC, not in the trophies, I simply wasn't interested and as a result it was traded in.

A lot of people will disagree with me here and say they really like this game, but trust me the bar has been raised by Kratos so high that its left the Stratosphere, it's that high and if you haven't played God if War 3 but have played Dante's Inferno - get up now and get Kratos' latest adventure - trust me, you have no idea how much difference there is in quality.

Obviously the ending suggests [as most new games do] that there will be a second outing with this game, which in many ways is a real moment of opportunity for Viceral. I hope, that they DI Team take s leaf out of the 'Assassins Creed Team's' book as I remember frowning incessantly when I played Assassins Creed, but Assassins Creed 2 is an awesome game and really should be experienced if you get chance.

To conclude my experience with Dante's Inferno was very much medium to cold. The promises made to us weren't delivered and as a result I would advise anyone considering this game to steer clear if you have already played or own God of War 3.

Overall not bad, but at the same time not good. Dante's Inferno was more like Dante's Tepid.
