Dante's Inferno Demo Review

Standing in the shadow of Kratos. That's what this game is doing, and trust me I won't be the first or last to think this. However, as much as this game is a sort of flattering emulation, it's not God of War and never will be. However, the success of Sony's franchise means that there will inevitably be imitators. That isn't necessarily a bad thing in this case, if EA can innovate in some important areas.

Now that we have cleared this up let's take at look at it through fresh eyes with a clear and open mind. This game looks really dark and gritty in a totally different way, sinister. I mean you only have to see the characters involved and the premise of venturing through the Nine Circles of Hell to rescue your true love which shows there are some creative differences here. Taking its inspiration from religious literature rather than Greek mythology, Dante's Inferno feels sufficiently fresh and interesting.

The game play is swift, slick and very responsive, the baddies look like a mix between Devil May Cry and God of War. The levels look gothic and interesting, with boss battles again sitting neatly in between DMC and GOW. I really enjoyed the Demo and really wanted to play more. The most engaging part of the game for me is the story that is being told as you will progress through the game and I am really looking forward to seeing the teams version of hell after consuming the poem, for which the game has been drawn from. The best adaptation of hell I've seen was in Constantine (film) but this game looks to be a real smasher.

After closely following the developer diaries on PSN (as I did with Dead Space and the Dead Space Comic Tales) I think this game is going to do for GOW what Mortal Kombat
did for Street Fighter. It will be good, really good, a great alternative adventure, just not quite GOW good. I intend to buy this game, but I also expect the bar to be lifted stratospherically high with the upcoming release of God of War.
