It's tough out there for a first-person shooter these days. It seems that the fickle hearts and minds of gamers have lots of great options to turn to for their team-based multiplayer fix. There was a time when World War II titles reigned supreme: Call of Duty 3, Battlefield 1942, Medal of Honor and even Wolfenstein ruled our consoles and LAN networks. Nowadays, a plethora of fancy new shooters have come to depose the World War II genre from its ownership of the battlefield. Even the great Call of Duty franchise has moved on to a more modern setting, while the Battlefield franchise has moved to an imaginary near-future conflict for its destructive mayhem.

Battlefield: Bad Company has received some phenomenal reviews from both gamers and the press, but is it enough to dethrone the current console champ, Call of Duty 4? For one thing, Bad Company has only one multiplayer mode -- Gold Rush -- to choose from. All of that might be changing, however, as EA seems set to turn Battlefield into a multiplayer powerhouse. This month, the company released a free DLC patch for the game which added a new mode, "Conquest". If the company throws support behind the title with new maps and multiplayer modes, we have no doubt that the well-reviewed game will have a long and successful life as a multiplayer favorite. Check out a list of fan reviews of Bad Company.
