Capcom Offers Credit Cards

Capcom has taken branding and marketing tie-ins to the next level. Some of its most popular games are getting their own pre-paid Visa cards, featuring artwork from well-known titles such as Street Fighter IV, Resident Evil 5 and Bionic Commando.

These special credit cards will be available online beginning February 17. Capcom fanboys can rejoice in the fact that the card scores you a 15% off discount for purchases made on Capcom's online store. The cards will be rechargeable. As part of a new rewards program, each dollar earns the card holder five Capcom Unity Points which "can be used in a number of different ways" at Capcom Unity, the company's fan community website.

Examples of rewards include auctions and raffles. Other incentives include scoring game beta invites or "being written into a Capcom game or comic book" or even living the ultimate fanboy's dream of a walk-on role as an extra in a future Capcom game based movie. Card holders can send money back and forth with each other. This is an interesting feature and may be the first hint that Capcom is building up an infrastructure that will allow players to trade items in games like MMORPGs. It won't be a surprise if we find this feature sneaking into the upcoming Monster Hunter game for the Wii.
