BAFTA AWARD WINNING COMPOSER JASON GRAVES TO SPEAK AT DEVELOP CONFERENCE

"What's The Score? The Art and Science of Interactive
Video Game Music"
Develop Conference
Hilton Metropole in Brighton, UK
21 July 2011
15:10-15:50
Jason Graves' spine-chilling interactive music score for DEAD SPACE won him a BAFTA, a place in game music history and critical acclaim from both peers and punters alike. But his work in music for interactive entertainment encompasses dozens of other productions to which he has brought and continues to bring unbridled passion and enthusiasm as well as finely honed composition skills. This session is a rare opportunity to hear the maestro in Europe outlining his quest for excellence in creating interactive music that can respond to game states and events on the fly at run-time and provide musical variation through the thoughtful manipulation of multiple music stems. From inception and design, recording approach, process and editing through to implementation, expect a masterclass in interactive music.
Ali Fearnley, Develop Conference Director: "We're delighted Develop's audio track delegates will have the opportunity to hear Jason speak in Europe. Knowing the amazing work he produces, we are expecting his session to be truly inspirational."
Jason Graves is a British Academy Award-winning composer who has brought his passion for music to video game franchises such as DEAD SPACE, PREY, STAR TREK, CITY OF HEROES, F.E.A.R. and COMMAND AND CONQUER. His music has become synonymous with unique, cinematic textures combined with modern aesthetics and he is renowned worldwide for his cinematic, immersive and award-winning music. Jason created the innovative, unique soundtrack for DEAD SPACE, which has become Electronic Arts' best-selling original title and called "the scariest game ever made." Jason's groundbreaking score has been hailed by critics as a "truly original soundtrack" and "the best score of the year." It was recognized with a myriad of worldwide nominations and won two BAFTA awards - one for Original Score and one for Use of Audio. For the latter, the Academy stated, "It's the music soundtrack that boasts horror and tension."
Jason Graves returned to create a psychodramatic orchestral score for DEAD SPACE 2. Reflecting hero Isaac Clarke's dementia and nightmarish personal journey, Graves' original music score for DEAD SPACE 2 features the intricately woven thematic movement "Lacrimosa," a concerto for string quartet that runs throughout the game. The game's intense and varied soundtrack also immerses players in this thrilling action horror experience with haunting Unitology choral compositions, visceral action music and spine-tingling string arrangements performed by A-list musicians at Skywalker Sound. Jason conducted the world premiere of "Lacrimosa" from DEAD SPACE 2 with members of the London Philharmonia at the "Dead Space Exposed" launch event in London. His upcoming projects include the cinematic and action orchestral music for PREY 2 and the paranormal first person shooter F.3.A.R.
