An Apple Computer logo has appeared n a Flash animation on the official website for the PlayStation 3. While the logo's appearance could have something to do with the animation software used or simply an error of some sort, speculation is now running rampant that Sony has partnered in some way with Apple on the forthcoming console. The two companies could collaborate in several ways — from offering the Mac OS X operating system on the PS3 to special iPod and iTunes integration.

Update: The logo has now been removed with no explanation.

Update #2: Kotaku was quick on the draw and took a large screenshot before the logo was removed.

Update #3: Joystiq reports that the logo could be a watermark from an unregistered copy of Apple's Shake software, but is awaiting an official response from Sony.

Update #4: One gamer has deconstructed the Flash file and found a black box with an Apple logo being covered in smoke.

Update #5: Sony has released an official statement: "In a recent update to the PlayStation 3 section of www.us.playstation.com website, an external error was made during the upload process and the Apple icon was mistakenly placed on the site. We immediately fixed the problem and apologize for any confusion this may have caused."
