American Technology Research analyst Paul-Jon McNealy has stated that shipments of Sony's PS3 console appear to have been lower than expected. Sony had expected to ship 400,000 PS3 units to the US for launch day, but new research shows that the actual number was in the range of 125,000 to 175,000, 15,000 of which were meant for demo kiosks.

"This number is below our previously lowered expectations of 250,000 to 300,000," McNealy said. "We previously expected Sony to be able to still make a calendar year 2006 North American and Japan shipment number of 2 million, but those numbers are now under review."
