40GB PS3 Has No PS2 Love

This can either be the most retarded or smartest move Sony has ever done. By cutting the PS2 chip and software emulation, the PS3 becomes cheaper. However, the PS brand has a long history of Backwards capabilities. The idea that you could play 3 generations worth of software on a single machine is appealing. (not to mention it saves space) At the same time, if you already own a PS2, why would you need Backwards Compatibility? How much would you get for that aging PS2? $100? Doubt it.
So the question we should be asking is, will PS2 owners buy it? (I guess that's why we have two SKUs huh?)
