Is Soul Calibur IV DLC a Rip Off?

Our readers already know that we aren't huge fans of DLC here at PS3 Informer, unless it is done very, very well. We feel that it is the publisher's job to convince us that their downloadable content is a good deal, rather than try to cynically sell us content that may as well already be on the disk. Unfortunately, that appears to be what Namco is doing with their new dowlnadable content for Soul Calibur IV. Remember how when the game first released, each console got a different Star Wars character? Predictably, Namco now wants to sell us the missing character so that we can see the two fighters duel on our console of choice.

On October 23rd, Japanese PS3 owners will be able to download Yoda for about $6, while Xbox 360 players can grab Darth Vader for 400 Microsoft points. While the price is not extremely high, we feel that it is pretty gimmicky to ask customers to pay for something that they could have reasonably included from the beginning. This also sets a bad precedent for other companies hoping to cash in on multiplatform releases.

Do you think the Namco DLC is a rip off, or do you think it is worth the $5 to get an additional character? Let us know in the Soul Calibur IV thread!
