Sony has released details on an upcoming, exclusive title for the Playstation Network called Savage Moon. The premise of the game will be immediately familar to anyone who has ever seen the 1997 film Starsip Troopers. Other than Denise Richards, one of the highlights of the movie was a great scene where the space marines are besieged in their base by an onslaught of fast-moving gigantic insects. This game takes that part of the movie as the starting-off point for its entire design.
According to Sony, the game is a little bit like Desktop Tower Defense, except set on the moon. And with giant bugs: "Savage Moon sees you protecting a remote off-world mining facility from waves of ravenous space bugs, looking to consume everything in their path. Armed with a fearsome array of defensive weapons, your mission is to take your choice of the finest armaments known to humankind and keep the facility safe by strategically placing these guns which then automatically fire at their targets. "
Just like Tower Defense, players will be given the opportunity to upgrade their guns in the short time between increasingly difficult waves of insects. We don't yet know if players will be able to channel the incoming horde through a complex maze of ice towers and auto-firing machine guns, but that has always been a strategy that works for us.
The game is currently slated for release this November, but in the meantime here are a couple of screenshots to whet your bug-killing appetites:
