Brütal Legend: One-Word Review

O.C.D. Boy's 1-word review.

DISCLAIMER: This is a light-hearted take on video game reviews. If you're looking for an in-depth analysis of the pros and cons of a game, this is not it. If you're in a humorous mood and enjoy flame-tastic message board discussions, make yourself at home. After reading our review, you may laugh, you may cry, or you may feel the need to demand the 30-seconds of your life you wasted back. Our comments section is a great place to post your angry letters or vent, either to defend or rail against the game. Do not continue reading if pregnant or suffering from a serious heart condition, unless cleared by your doctor.
Again, this is a not a serious review. It is a parody. It is not meant to adequately summarize the merits of a game or how well it plays. What it serves to do is excite discussion and help players understand the type of the game they're buying. This review tries to capture -- in one-word -- the essence of a hot new game. Think of it as word association. It's essentially the first word that comes to mind when thinking about that game. And it may describe the sort of gameplay or experience you can expect, ad nauseam.

Today we "review" the hugely popular Brütal Legend, brainchild of equally legendary Tim Schafer of Day of the Tentacle, Grim Fandango, Monkey Island, and Psychonauts fame.

O.C.D. Boy's 1-Word Review of Brütal Legend:

Hilarious!

Tim Schafer knows comedy. And he does it better through video games than most polished stand-up comedians. You will be bawling at his spot-on one-liners. The backdrop for his latest game conjures up all the bad metal album covers and fantasy heavy metal imagery from the 80s and bathes you in all their glory. With a worthy frontman leading the charge, Tenacious D's song-meister Jack Black himself, and a villain named Doviculus (voiced by the delicious Tim Curry), you know you've got a winner. Those expecting a straight forward hack & slash or beat-em up type game will be surprised to find some quality RTS moments that require real thinking and strategy. Like the shades of hair metal that inspired it, this game is an unabashed gender-bender -- no wait, genre-bender -- that also infuses segments of a racer and shooter. One thing Schafer is not is conventional. What his game is, in one-word, hilarious!
